New Things

800mg Vitex + 100mg B6. That was the plan for this month to try to lengthen my luteal phase. Well, it’s CD22, and I’m still a few days away from a positive OPK. Like it will probably be positive on CD24. Just like last month. So the Vitex and B6 did nothing to move up ovulation. I’ll have to wait and see if it will lengthen my luteal phase on the other end, but I kind of doubt it.

I know neither one of these are supposed to be short-term solutions. Most people agree that Vitex works after about 3 months in your system. But just once, I’d like to be the Amazon reviewer or baby forum commenter that “took/used _____ and got a BFP the very first month!!!!”

I’m never that person.

I was also planning on adding progesterone cream after ovulation, but I didn't get it ordered in time. Maybe next cycle that will be our new thing to try that can work in the first month!

We’re out of PreSeed (another conception aid we’ve been using for over a year with no luck. I was planning to add it to our babymaking regimen and conceive the first month! Didn't work out.), and I was trying to convince Bobby to pick some up at Walgreens while he was out picking up our dinner and movie on Saturday night.

He scrunched his face up at me. “I have to get it? That’s embarrassing!”

“You don’t think it’s embarrassing for me to pick it up every few months for over a year?!”

“No...you’re a girl. It's weirder for me. That’d be like you...buying condoms.”

“I’m always the one who buys the condoms!”

“Yeah...I know...”

We used the cheap, non-sperm-friendly lube that night. I have a hard time believing it really matters at this point. But I suppose I’ll pick up the PreSeed on the way home from work tonight.

You know, just in case that’s what makes it work this month.

I have more things to write about—deeper things. Like the whirlwind I went through over my plans for teaching and coaching next year. My upcoming summer vacation to Up North, Minnesota. Our last two childless friends’ wedding last weekend—and predictions for how soon before they have a baby (my guess: less than a year). But those will all just have to wait.

  1. Hang in there! I know it's hard not to get instantaneous results, but I did experience a shortened follicular phase after a few months on Vitex (in addition to acupuncture). It moved up by ovulation date to CD18/19 from CD22/23, and I was shocked it actually worked while I was on it! They also make wild yam pills (if you don't like the progesterone cream) just FYI as a natural form of progesterone as well. Might be an option if you sweat, swim, etc. and want to make sure you're getting the whole shibang absorbed. GL this cycle girlie!

    1. Thanks for the advice. I have heard good things about Vitex, so I'm hoping in a few months it really starts to work (though I'll admit I would be shocked...things never seem to work on my body!). I'm not sure that's the only problem with me, but I don't think lengthening my luteal phase/shortening my follicular phase would be a bad thing to fix.

  2. I also hated running out of pre seed and having to worry about these things before baby dancing. Takes all the fun out of it!

    1. As if timed intercourse isn't lame enough, we have to check the supply cabinet first. Definitely kills the mood.

  3. My husband is completely awesome in the fact he was went to the store and bought the follow for me without batting an eyelash. Enemas, tampons, pads, pregnancy test and lube!

I am not very familiar with the vitex, but I am sure it will definitely take a few months on the short side to see any effects. You might also ask your doctor for rx progesterone.Mine told me that OTC was a complete waste of money. Not sure though, it could be different for everyone. Either way hope you get your LP lengthened.

    1. It sounds like you got a good man! I recently helped a poor husband who looked extremely lost and confused in the tampon aisle of Walmart. He said his wife yelled at him and told him he better get the right tampons, but didn't give him a brand. It was sad, adorable, and pretty funny. I told him to put back those cardboard applicator nonsense and get the fancy pearl ones. Hopefully she didn't yell too much!

  4. Oh how I wish I could be one of those people who "tried something one time and it worked" also, but no luck yet. Maybe after you take it for a little longer it will work for you.

    1. Right? Eventually I'm hoping with the right combination of everything, *something* will finally click. Though I'm sure it will take more than one month.

  5. I always hoped that I'd be one of the DOR ladies who tried DHEA for a few months and got a spontaneous positive. Nope. But our situations are very different! At least you're trying something different from what you've been doing, which is a positive step forward.

    1. If I just keep trying new things...something has to work, right? Right? Right? Okay, I know that's not how it works, but I feel like I have to do something.

  6. Sometimes it feels like we're grasping in the dark for answers and remedies to unknown ailments, but I think it does happen, by accident or design, that some people do find the missing piece, the one thing their body needed to get the job done. I hope one of these new things is THE thing for you, Lil. I've heard of plenty of pregnancies from late ovulations - it is *so* possible.

    1. I'm the first to admit I'm totally grasping in the dark for anything that has ever helped someone get pregnant. For some reason, I'm semi-convinced that my body is just missing this one little thing, and when I find it and fix it, everything will work. Maybe someday I'll be a late-ovulation success story!

  7. I hope that one of these days/months you find just the right combination that will give you that elusive bfp. Just keep swimming, just keep swimming....
